Synopsis

Add some adventure to your course. Trap Doors and Trojan Horses is an educational novel that mixes fraud, crime, politics, and auditing. The novel uses a "novel" approach to mix elements of an adventure story with auditing and business concepts. The fictional character, Professor Lenny Cramer, operates a small forensic accounting firm in Atlanta, Georgia. Called a "sort of Indiana Jones of the Ledger Set" by the Washington Post, Lenny testifies before Congressional committees and serves as an expert witness in the courtroom. In the course of the story, business practices, political controversies, contemporary individual and corporate planning, accounting fraud, and the lives of CPAs and their colleagues are elucidated in a way that both students and instructors will find gripping and informative.

The novel is ideally suited as a reading assignment in an auditing class. The novel can be useful in other classes, such as AIS or introductory data processing, to present topics such as internal controls, computer viruses, and information technology concepts.
