Accounting 484 is described in the TAMU catalog as "a practicum in accounting under the supervision of accounting practitioners." Students enrolled in Accounting 484 must write a one-page report about their internship experience. The report should discuss the following:
Obtaining Course Credit for an Internship
to Meet Requirements to take the CPA Exam
(as of 4-16-98)
Accounting internship courses must meet the following requirements to be recognized by the State Board:
1. the knowledge gained is equal
or greater than the knowledge gained in a traditional classroom setting;
2. the employing firm provides
the faculty coordinator and the student with objectives to be met during
the internship;
3. the employing firm provides
an evaluation of the student at the conclusion of the internship, provides
a letter describing the duties performed and the supervision to the student,
and provides a copy of the documentation to the faculty coordinator and
the student;
4. the internship is approved by
the faculty advisor;
5. the student keeps a diary comprising
a chronological list of all work experience gained in the internship;
6. the student writes a paper demonstrating
the knowledge gained in the internship;
7. the student receives not more
than 3 semester hours of credit for the internship (credit for only one
internship course will be granted by the board); and
8. the student provides evidence
of all items upon request by the board.
