CALL FOR PAPERS AND PROPOSALS
2010 Annual Meeting
March 2 to March 6, 2010
Dallas, Texas
The Southwestern Society of Economists (SSE) announces its annual meeting for March 2-6, 2010 in Dallas, Texas in association with the 37th annual meeting of the Federation of Business Disciplines (FBD). We invite and encourage members of the SSE, academicians, practitioners, and doctoral students to be involved in some capacity by:
1. Presenting a paper on a topic of interest to both academicians and practitioners.
Or Serving as a session chair and/or paper discussant.
2. Organizing an invited paper session, invited panel or tutorial.
3. Submitting a paper for 2010 McGraw-Hill/Irwin Distinguished Paper Award.
4. Nominating a candidate for 2010 South-Western Outstanding Educator Award.
Presenting a Paper on a Topic of Interest to Both Academicians and Practitioners
Or Serving as a Session Chair and/or Paper Discussant
Electronically submit a completed paper or an abstract (not to exceed 500 words) with the attached Submission Form to the Program Chair. Acceptance of your paper/abstract obligates you to serve as session chair and/or discussant.
Indicate the topic area of your paper.
If you wish to serve as a session chair or discussant, please complete the attached Submission Form and indicate your area(s) of interest.
Conditions for Presentation:
a) Participants must register for both SSE and FBD.
b) Presenters must email copies of their paper to their assigned discussants and session chairs
by February 1, 2010.
c) Anyone scheduled to present or discuss a paper is obligated to notify the session chair and
Program Chair IN ADVANCE if he/she cannot attend a scheduled session.
Failure to comply with this stated SSE policy may bar that person from participation in the SSE annual meeting for one year and preclude publication of abstracts or papers accepted for presentation in 1) 2010 SSE Conference Paper Abstracts, 2) Southwestern Economic Review: Research Notes, and 3) Southwestern Economic Review.
Organizing an Invited Paper Session, or an Invited Panel or Tutorial
Prospective participants may organize an Invited Paper Session, Invited Panel or Tutorial. As an invited paper session, invited panel, or tutorial organizer, you are expected to:
Invite 3 to 4 paper presenters along with 2 to 4 discussants, or 2 to 4 panelists, or a tutorial.
Obtain abstracts of papers, abstracts of each panel members’ remarks, or abstract of the tutorial.
Electronically submit to the Program Chair the completed Submission Form and one copy of each abstract for review. Each abstract should contain paper title, name(s) of presenter(s), affiliation, address, phone number, fax number, e-mail address of each participant.
Administer all communications among Session/Panel/Tutorial participants and insure that papers are sent to discussants in a timely manner.
Serve as Session Chair/Panel Moderator for the session you organized
2010 McGraw-Hill/Irwin Distinguished Paper Competition
Prospective participants are urged to submit papers for the 2010 McGraw-Hill/Irwin Distinguished Paper Award (Economics) sponsored by the McGraw Hill/Irwin Company. The paper may be considered for publication in the Southwestern Economic Review (SER) with publication fees waived. Papers considered for this award should not have been published, presented, or under consideration for publication elsewhere.
$300 Cash Reward --- The winner will receive a recognition plaque from McGraw Hill/Irwin during the FBD banquet in Dallas on Wednesday evening, March 3, 2010; in addition, the winner will receive a cash reward of $300 at the Annual Breakfast Business Meeting sponsored by the SSE. Recognition of the 1st and 2nd runner-up papers may also be made at the Annual Breakfast Business meeting.
Those who wish to enter this competition must submit their papers electronically to the Program Chair with a detachable cover page with the author’s name, position, affiliation/university, complete address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address. The paper cannot be more than 30 double-spaced pages in length, including references and others. The winner must present the paper during the 2010 SSE Annual Meeting. Full Papers must be received by the Program Chair by October 21, 2009.
2010 South-Western Outstanding Educator Award
The Southwestern Society of Economists (SSE) is seeking nominations for the 2010 Outstanding Educator Award. Candidates for the award should have made contributions to the area of economic education as evidenced by innovative pedagogy, instructional research, teaching related presentations and/or workshops. The nominee/candidate must be a member of the SSE to be eligible for this award. The nominator should include a letter detailing why the nominee should receive the Association’s Outstanding Educator Award. This letter must include the name, affiliation, complete address, phone/fax number and e-mail address of both the nominator and the nominee. The candidate may, at his/her discretion, submit additional documentation in support of the nomination. The additional material should include three letters of recommendation, a statement from the applicant describing his/her educational contributions (not exceeding 5 pages, double spaced), and a recent vitae. The nominations and any supporting documents from the candidates must be received by the SSE Program Chair by October 21, 2009 for the 2010 Award. Please submit all documents electronically.
The winner will receive a recognition plaque from South-Western, A Part of Cengage Learning, during the FBD banquet in Dallas on Wednesday evening, March 3, 2010. The winner is invited to the Annual Breakfast Business Meeting of the SSE.

Abstracts of the Papers accepted to be presented at the 2010 SSE annual meeting will be published on-line before the conference at http://sites.google.com/site/swse2010conference/.

Papers presented at the 2010 SSE annual meeting may be submitted for possible publication in the Southwestern Economic Review: Research Notes (SER: RN), which could be classified as a refereed proceedings publication, if the paper is presented at the 2010 SSE annual conference.
Southwestern Economic Review:
Papers presented at the 2010 SSE annual meeting may be submitted for possible publication in the Southwestern Economic Review (SER), the refereed journal of the Southwestern Society of Economists, which is JEL-indexed and listed in Cabells Directory.
To be considered for publication in the SER or SER: RN, the paper must not currently be under review by another journal or have not been previously published.
